This is due to the effort of the Chamber of Turism, private bussiness, local authorities and the general population, aware of the important role that flora and fauna have on our natural heritage.
Thanks to that, nowdays Sarapiqui offers its visitors many ecosystems, making it one of the naturally richest regions of the country . The US National Academy of Sciences awarded La Selva Biological Station, as one of the four more intresting places for Tropical Forest research. Its 1534 acres are rich and biodiverse lands covered by  primary forests and swapms, in wich have been identified more than 500 species of birds, 100 species of mammals, 2000 species of plants and 800 species of trees, stats that show just how biodiverse the region is.
Every year, thosands of visitors travel to the región with the porpuse of  seeing: Birds, insects, reptiles, mammals, and countless plants life ferns, orchids among others
